Since 1970, LGBTQIA+ student organizations have been the foundation for involvement, activism, engagement, community, pride, and leadership. The mission of the Aromantic Asexual Alliance is to provide a safe and inclusive space for members of the Asexual and Aromantic community alongwith their allies; to provide support and information for members; to provide a safe and responsible social interaction between the Ace-Aro community at Iowa State and help eliminate acephobia.
The College of Veterinary (CVM) Spectrum is a professional organization for members of the CVM community that identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and straight allies. The organization is open and welcoming to all staff, professional students, graduate students, undergraduate students, faculty, and technicians related to the CVM community.
Gamma Rho Lambda Omicron Chapter is a social sorority for the LGBTQIA+ and Ally community. GRL at ISU exemplifies the qualities of acceptance, diversity, unity and trust, which provides a network of assistance in the areas of scholastic guidance, emotional support, and community service while ultimately developing the life-long bonds of siblinghood. We are all committed to creating a diverse, safe, educational and scholastic environment. We are inclusive and welcome all races, sexualities, nationalities, systems of belief, and world-views. We ultimately support the LGBTQIA+ community, while affecting social change in the Ames, Iowa community. Recruitment events happen at the start of Fall and Spring semester. Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics is about working to represent and advocate for LGBTQIA+ students in the STEM field. We aim to foster an inclusive STEM community and LGBTQIA+ leadership. We are open to all students from any major who appreciates STEM and want to work for substantive diversity.
The Pride Alliance's mission is to provide a safe space where students and guests can discuss and learn about the LGBTQIA+ community, their own gender and sexuality, and have support in their acceptance of themselves and others, as we strive to eliminate homophobia, transphobia, heterosexism and cissexism in all aspects of life--on and off campus.
Through social gatherings, Pride Goes Greek aims to create a safe space and sense of community for underrepresented students in the Sorority and Fraternity Community at Iowa State, especially those under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella. Through educational events and outreach programs, we will develop an inclusive narrative among sorority and fraternity members who do not hold LGBTQIA+ identities and establish a wide-reaching support system.
The Queer* Graduate Student Association is open to all Iowa State University graduate students who identify within the LGBTQIA+ community. Our main purpose is to provide social opportunities to connect ISU LGBTQIA+ graduate students across disciplines. In addition, it also allows graduate students the ability to network with each other in both personal and professional capacities. Professional possibilities could be research collaborations, helpful strategies for teaching, or other career related items.
Socialize With Pride is an inclusive community for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual people to meet others in the community with minimal obligations. We accept any person, with or without a label, who may feel like they are part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
