About the Center

All are welcome to visit The Center located in 4600 Memorial Union. The Center is a space for you to be yourself, find and build community, get involved, and explore lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, and ally life at Iowa State University.

As the hub of LGBTQIA+ student life on campus, The Center provides students with a lounge, access to Center staff, computer lab, table space to enhance your academic progress, a wellness room, wired and wireless projection (through HDMI), and an interactive innovation area to build LGBTQIA+ community, culture, pride, leadership, and more!

Center Space

The Center Space is located on the 4th floor of the Memorial Union. Take the elevator to the 4th floor and take a right -- you can't miss us!

To ensure you have the best experience while in the Center, we recommend reviewing the Center guidelines and the Iowa State University Principles of Community. Both of these serve to guide all guests in the Center.

Any introduction to The Center Space must also include an acknowledgment of the land upon which The Center, staff, and visitors reside. The Center Space is located on the ancestral lands and territory of the Baxoje (bah-kho-dzhe), or Ioway Nation. The United States obtained the land from the Meskwaki and Sauk nations in the Treaty of 1842. The Center staff wish to recognize our obligations to this land and to the people who took care of it, as well as to the 17,000 Native people who live in Iowa today.

We also welcome your feedback on how we can improve The Center. Send us an email with your feedback!

Our Mission

The mission of the Center for LGBTQIA+ Student Success at Iowa State University is to foster an inclusive and supportive environment for all students. Our center is committed to promoting equity and student success through programs, resources, and support that empower students to thrive academically and personally. Through education, advocacy, and community-building initiatives, we aim to create a campus culture where all students, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression, can fully engage in their academic pursuits and contribute to the vibrant diversity of our institution. Our work is grounded in the mission of the University and Division of Student Affairs, emphasizing the importance of serving all students and ensuring their overall well-being and success.

Leadership Philosophy

How the Center defines Leadership:

Leadership is the ability to understand one’s capacities and strengths in order to meaningfully and empathetically collaborate with others to create collective action.
