Scholarships From the Center for LGBTQIA+ Student Success

The Center is honored to annually present scholarships recognizing individuals demonstrating leadership, involvement, academic excellence, and/or scholarship associated with the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, ally, and more, community at Iowa State University. Available for Juniors and Seniors

The Scott Rohlf Presidential Leadership Initiative Award is a scholarship presented annual since 1995 to students who have demonstrated leadership and involvement in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, etc. community at Iowa State University. The purpose of the scholarship is to complement successful academic experiences by partially supporting student leadership and involvement in the LGBTQIA+ community at Iowa State University.

Scholarship Amount

The scholarship varies, typically $1,000.00

Qualifications

  • Recipient must be a Junior or Senior
  • Recipient will demonstrate leadership and involvement in LGBTQIA+ student activities, events or initiatives
  • Recipient will demonstrate experience in promoting LGBTQIA+ visibility, community engagement, and action on campus
  • Recipient will demonstrate a commitment to academic achievement by achieving a grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale

The Walter J. Allen & Shaun B. Keister Scholarship is open to undergraduate (sophomores, juniors, and seniors) and graduate students who have demonstrated leadership and involvement in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, etc. community at Iowa State University.

Scholarship Amount

The scholarship amount varies depending on the number of awardees, typically $1,000.00

Qualifications

  • Recipient(s) will be an undergraduate sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student
  • Recipient(s) will demonstrate leadership in LGBTQIA+ student organizations, activities, events, or initiatives
  • Recipient(s) will demonstrate experience in promoting LGBTQIA+ visibility, community, engagement, and action on campus
  • Recipient(s) will demonstrate a commitment to academic achievement by achieving a grade point average of 2.25 or higher for undergraduate students and 3.25 or higher for graduate students on a 4.0 scale

The Craig E. Scholarship is open to all students, undergraduate and graduate, who have demonstrated leadership and involvement in promoting and participating in the activities of the Center for LGBTIA+ Student Success and LGBTQIA+ community at Iowa State University.

The scholarship amount varies depending on the number of awardees, typically $1,000

Qualifications

  • Recipient(s) will be students of any class standing
  • Recipient(s) will demonstrate leadership and involvement in the Center for LGBTQIA+ Student Success
  • Recipient(s) will demonstrate leadership and involvement in one or more of the LGBTQIA+ recognized student organizations on campus
  • Recipient(s) will demonstrate the importance of being involved in the LGBTQIA+ community at Iowa State University

The Klinge Student Scholarship is open to all students who have demonstrated leadership and involvement in promoting and participating in the activities of the Center for LGBTQIA+ Student Success and the LGBTQIA+ community at Iowa State University.

Scholarship Amount

The scholarship amount varies depending on the number of awardees, typically $2,500

Qualifications

  • Recipient(s) will be (an) undergraduate student(s)
  • Recipient(s) will be enrolled in one of the following departments:
    • Department of Horticulture, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
    • Department of Landscape Architecture, College of Design
    • Department of Music and Theatre, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
  • Recipient(s) will have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.35 on a 4.0 scale
  • Recipient(s) will have a verified financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid
  • Recipient(s) will be active in, affiliated with, or have benefited from the Center for LGBTQIA+ Student Success and/or LGBTQIA+ community at Iowa State University
  • Recipient(s) will have experiences obstacles or barriers in pursuit of a college degree

Th Lew Klinge Study Abroad Scholarship is open to students who have demonstrated leadership and involvement in promoting and participating in the activities of the Center for LGBTQIA+ Student Success and LGBTQIA+ community at Iowa State University who are also pursuing an Iowa State University study abroad experience.

The scholarship amount varies depending on the number of awardees, typically $2,500

Qualifications

  • Recipient(s) will be (an) undergraduate student(s)
  • Recipient(s) have or will be pursuing a study abroad experience
  • Recipient(s) will be enrolled in one of the following departments:
    • Department of Horticulture, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
    • Department of Landscape Architecture, College of Design
    • Department of Music and Theatre, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
  • Recipient(s) will have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.35 on a 4.0 scale
  • Recipient(s) will have verified financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid
